K-5 Reading and Math Specialist

The K-5 Reading and Math Specialist instructor works hand-in-hand with the education team of the student, their parents, teachers and school psychologist to assist our students in a multitude of ways:

  • Instruction— The reading and math specialist is a support for classroom teachers and students, and works collaboratively to implement a quality reading and math program.
  • Assessment— The reading and math specialist evaluates the literacy and math programs, and can assess the reading and math strengths and needs of students and communicate these to classroom teachers, parents, and specialized personnel such as psychologists, special educators, or speech teachers.
  • Services: The reading and math specialist provides individualized instruction services to assist students in achieving their potential.  Also, the reading and math specialist will monitor and train all K- 8 educators in the current reading and math benchmarks which are powerful indicators for improving student outcomes.  Those include DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills), MAPS Assessments and ITBS Assessments.
  • Leadership— The reading and math specialist is a resource to other educators, parents, and the community.
